Shakhriyar Mamedyarov commented on Oleg Skovrtsov's unusual proposition of organizing the match or match-tournament for deciding who will qualify for the Candidates:

"I think not only Grischuk and Caruana will be motivated at the last Grand Prix stage. There's the prize fund, rating, moreover, there's World Cup which also gives the players the opportunity to qualify to the Candidates. I don't think breaking the Grand Prix Series now is a good idea. It's of course nice that there are businessmen who pay a lot of attention to chess, but I don't think this idea will be realized because the last stage is motivating not only for Grischuk and Caruana.

I did all I could. Grischuk and Caruana will do their best in Paris. Grischuk and Caruana are very strong players and each of them deserves to finish first or second in the overall Grand Prix standings. Even if any of them wins the last stage I won't be upset, because I did all I could - I shared first place in one of the stages and took clear first in Beijing. If someone shows better result than me it means that this person deserves qualifying to the Candidates more than I do," the website quoted Azerbaijani GM.
