Riga to Host ACP Cup in September

16 grandmasters will play rapid chess

Emil Sutovsky, the head of the Association of Chess Professionals announced on his Facebook page that the ACP Cup 2013 will take place in Riga, Latvia from September 12th-15th. 16 grandmasters will fight in the knock-out rapid chess competition. The names of seven participants are already known:  
Peter Svidler
Alexander Grischuk
Shakhriyar Mamedyarov
Sergey Karjakin
Alexander Morozevich
Teimour Radjabov
Ruslan Ponomariov.

The overall list will be published this week. The prize fund of the tournament is US$75 thousand. The event is organized in cooperation with Alexey Shirov and Latvian chess community.

  • Eventually it turns out that GM Vassily Ivanchuk accepted the invitation and will play in the ACP Cup which is scheduled to take place from September 12th to 15th in Riga, Latvia. This was announced by Emil Sutovsky on his Facebook page. Earlier Sutovsky and Shirov said Ivanchuk declined the invitation.  

  • A friendly match between two famous GMs from Latvia is going to take place in Riga from September 26 to September 28.

  • Croatian GM Ivan Saric was chosen by the Association of Chess Professions to participate at 15th Poikovsky tournament which will take place from May 11 to 20. The organisers of the competition had an agreement with ACP according to which the association hold the right to nominate one participant. As Emil Sutovsky posted on his Facebook page Ivan Saric's achievements were not left unnoticed: he won Wijk aan Zee B-Group competition, also became champion of Croatia and shared 2nd place at European championship.

  • Emil Sutovsky, GM and the President of the ACP will be on the air of Chess-News radio tomorrow at 15:00 MSK Time. We will discuss the recent tournament ACP Golden Classic which took place in Amsterdam. You can leave your questions for the tournament organizer below. Pelase specify your name. 

  • As usually ten grandmasters will compete at Poikovsky competition scheduled to take place from May 11-20. Four grandmasters out of ten are Russian: Dmitry Jakovenko, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Alexander Morozevich and Alexander Motylev

    Other participants are Alexey Shirov, Viorel Bologan, Etienne Bacrot, Pawel Eljanov, Emil Sutovsky and Ivan Saric.

  • The knock-out rapid tournament ACP Cup started in Riga, Latvia. 16 grandmasters will compete for the main prize:
