  • Two final games have been played today in the match between Alexei Shirov and Evgeny Sveshnikov in Riga. Once again, the more experienced GM failed in his opening specialties in the Sicilian Defence (Alapin variation as White and early 4...e5 as Black). • Hou Yifan has secured the win in the Grand Prix series and the participation in the World Championship Match

  • The second game of the world title match between Ushenina and Hou Yifan was much more peaceful than the first one. Chinese deviated from a popular line of Sveshnikov variant in Sicilian by playing 18.h4, this however, didn't help to gain any advantage. Ukrainian could play more agressively instead of playing 21...Bb6 and 23...Qxd6 - the moves which practically forced a draw.

  • Game 3 of Shirov - Laznicka friendly match has finished in Novy Bor, Czech Republic. Latvian was white and the opponents again chose closed Caro-Kann with 4.Nf3 and 5.Be2. This time, unlike in Game 1, Alexei played 12.Rc1, 13.с3 и 14.Bd4 instead of 12.с4, but he didn't get any decisive advantage here as well.
