Vladimir Kramnik managed to beat his offender in London Vassily Ivanchuk in Game 1 of Round 4 at the World Cup. "I would prefer that to happen in London," Vladimir said at the press center after the game.

Kramnik noted his opponent's move 23.Qa2?! to be strange; now White can maintain equality, but only in case of accurate play. If White has played correct 23.Qc4 we could see further analyses of the position by Russian GM who at that moment hasn't spent much time on thinking.

Black had a slight advantage up to 40th move, White defended correclty. Then Ivanchuk seriously weakened his king:

IVANCHUK - KRAMNIK

40.f4? The move is not losing altogether but it made White's life much more complicated. Apparently, the typical breakthrough 40.e6! was the best in this situation; it would be enough for White to draw.
40...h5 41.h4 Kg7 42.Qb4?? Another miscalculation which gives no chance to resist Black's attack. As the winner noted failry though, it was already pretty hard to find the correct moves.
42...Qc6+ 43.Kf2 Rb5 44.Qd4 Qc2+ 45.Kf3 Rb2 0-1

Vladimir also said that although it's pleasant to defeat Vassily, it is early to celebrate as Ivanchuk will try to press him in tomorrow's game with white pieces.
