Dates for World Cup 2015 Baku Announced

The World Cup 2015 will take place from September 10 till October 4. This was announced after FIDE delegation visited Baku for inspection, Berik Balgabayev FIDE president assistant informs in Twitter.

Let us remind you, Azerbaijan got the right to hold the World Cup in "the package" together with Olympiad 2016. The country's bid won two years ago at FIDE Congressin Istanbul.

  • Today Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was on an official visit in Baku. The FIDE President's visit to Azerbaijan is connected to the signing of contracts for the Olympiad 2016 and World Cup 2015 scheduled to be held in the capital of the country. The officials held the joint conference, where Mahir Mammadov, the Vice-President of the Azerbaijani Chess Federation, announced the budget for organising these two events. "The budget will be 15 million EUR.

  • The contracts for holding the Olympiad 2016 and World Cup 2015 were signed today in Baku, Azerbaijan. Azad Ragimov, the Minister of Sports and Youth of Azerbaijan made a commentary on the ceremony: "Holding the Olympiad 2016 is a great event for us. I'm sure we will hold it at the highest possible level. If there were 160 participant countries in Istanbul this year, I'm sure that even more countries will come to Baku."

  • The Armenian Grandmaster has confirmed his participation in the FIDE World Cup 2015

  • The decision regarding the venue of the two most important competitions for the nearest future has been approved at the FIDE Congress: the capital of Azerbaijan - Baku will host the World Cup 2015 and the Olympiad-2016.

  • As Chess-News has already reported around 2 months ago, the 2015 Women's World Championship will be held in the Russian city of Sochi. The official dates have been announced by FIDE today - the championship will take place from March 16th to April 7th.

  • Today the FIDE General Assembly wil decide the place where Olympiad-2016 is going to take place. The main candidate is Baku, who offered a wide presentation of Azerbaijan bid the night before. Apart from Baku, the other candidates are Bulgaria and Estonia. 

  • The 2016 Chess Olympiad will take place in Baku while Chess-News chief editor was promised to be given an accreditation even today. 

  • Ashot Vardapetyan, Deputy Chief Arbiter at the European Club Cup in Eilat and the Vice-President of the Armenian Chess Federation, gave an interview to the website addressing kind words to the Azerbaijani Chess Federation (ACF). The topic was raised in connection to the Olympiad-2016 which will take place in Baku.
