An Inaccessible Lead?

EIWCC Leader Gunina defeated her nearest rival

In the key game of the 8th round the solo leader Valentina Gunina defeated her nearest rival Lela Javakhishvili who was only half a point behind her.

The game turned out to be quite nervous. Georgian player got almost a lost position already after the opening due to several mistakes she made 11...Be7? and 12...d6?, however Gunina let her opponent to equalize 13.Qa3? and 14.Qc3?!.

Black wouldn't have problems if it hasn't made a decisive strategic mistake on the 18th move:

GUNINA - JAVAKHISHVILI

18...exd5? Now White has a stable advantage and quite easy play, while no room for inaccuracies has been left for Black. Javakhishvili started making mistakes after 30th move when she started experiencing a time trouble.

31.Nf5?! Black could play easily 31...g6 with equality (32.Rxd5? Nb6!). Georgian made a mistake:
31...Rb5?! 32.а4?! (not the most precise move) Rc5? Аnd after this passive move Black is really in big trouble. Instead Javakhishvili should have played 32...Rb4! and losing a pawn on d5 is not a threat.

Gunina converted her advantage in the endgame not without her rival's help though.

So, Valentina Gunina won 7th (!) game in a row. On the second board Salome Melia defeated Olga Girya in a popular line of Sicilian.

Gunina leads with 7.5/8 being a full point ahead of Melia. Javakhishvili, Zhukova, Kosintseva T, Batsiashvili and Danielian have 6 points each.
