Fifth prize winner in the Grand Prix, Boris Gelfand congratulated Candidates qualifiers Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura. And he shared his impressions of his performance, as well as the series as a whole.

Gelfand said he felt great during this tournament, "but alas, for some reason, I never even got chances of winning". The main setback in the GP series for Boris was the second stage in Tashkent, where he shared last place. "I didn't recover emotionally", explained the grandmaster. "There was too short a gap between the first and second stages, just one week."

"I am very happy this GP series exists, because there is too much criticism. OK, the last cycle was organised better than this, but still the idea is great, and sometimes it is just political criticism for no reason whatsoever, even from players who qualify. I remember Veselin Topalov said it was his worst nightmare that the GP would take place, and then he plays and qualifies. And also, the whole time, all the cycle, he curses the organisers, curses the lack of tournaments. Here we have four great tournaments for top players, for everyone, there are so many good games. Good for players, good for public. I don't understand why there is so much criticism."
