The central office of the European Chess Union, where current president Zurab Azmaiparashvili will be based, has opened in Tbilisi.

The office is in the Palace of Chess building, and consists of 120 square metres of space. The refurbishment and equipping of the office did not cost the ECU a penny, the ECU's announcement points out.

Previously, over this entrance, there hung the name-plate of the "International Chess Academy". In practice, a ECU office operates in place of the academy.

About two years ago, the Academy was formally opened by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov.

The ECU's previous office was in Belgrade.
