Kirsan Ilyumzhinov has commented on the story regarding Garry Kasparov's exclusion from the list of champions of the sports society Spartak. In a live interview with Pavel Lobkov on the TV channel "Dozhd," the head of FIDE called the act of censorship "unfair", "wrong" and agreed that it was a political decision.

"I have great respect, love and appreciation for the thirteenth world champion, who has done a lot for the world of chess, chess in the Soviet Union and in Russia, and I think it is a purely political decision - said Ilyumzhinov. - After all, Garry was the thirteenth world champion, and he played for Spartak, and I think that a place should have been found for him in the book. Because you cannot just strike the world champion from the Soviet, or world sports".

According to Ilyumzhinov, Kasparov's name was struck off the list, "because he talks too much." He noted that during the election campaign for the presidency of FIDE, Kasparov last year "came to Mexico, the Congo, to many countries, and he spoke 99% about the policy on Ukraine, on this and that, and said practically nothing at all about chess".

"When you sit in front of players, who do not know where Ukraine is, somewhere in a distant African country, and you start this - they came to meet him as the champion of the world, as a candidate for the presidency of the World Chess Federation, and he tells them about the difficult relationship between Russia and the neighboring countries "- Ilyumzhinov was quoted as saying on the site Dozhd.

Pavel Lobkov recalled the situation with Viktor Korchnoi, who had been subject to a Soviet campaign of boycott and and defamation after emigrating to Switzerland. "You do not mind that it is repeated?" - asked the presenter. In response, Mr. Ilyumzhinov said that "it is a bad sign." "If a person has high sports achievements and sport is outside politics, he should be adequately represented in the history of the national sport."
