Vassily Ivanchuk has become the fourth semifinalist of the World Cup

“I just beat him in a bit better endgame”, summed up Vassily Ivanchuk his second rapid chess game of a quarterfinal tie-break with Teimour Radjabov. In the first one Azerbaijani had all chances to defeat Ivanchuk but Ukrainian managed to avoid loss by a persistent defence.

That’s how it went in the return game.

Thus, Ukrainians Ruslan Ponomariov and Vassily Ivanchuk were successful in crashing down all hopes of Azerbaijani fans of Vugar Gashimov and Teimour Radjabov.

Interest rises as the semifinalists of the World Cup were the same as it was at Moscow knockout world championship in 2001. If ten years ago Ponomariov played against Svidler and Ivanchuk’s opponent was Anand, this year the place of Indian chess Grandmaster took Grischuk what means that in both semifinals Ukraine will withstand Russia.
