Fabiano Caruana arrives in the top 10

FIDE has published March 2012 rating list, the biggest news of which became Fabiano Caruana's entrance in the top 10 world chess players. Italian occupied 7th place improving his rating by 30.5 points.

This fact shows not only 19 year-old Caruana's improved play, but the imperfection of the official rating system, when calculations are made only once in every two months. Italian made the most of this maximum system, though, he "only" needed to succeeed in three super-tournaments in a row. After reaching new rating of 2736 on January, Fabiano played in Reggio Emilia with his previous lower rating. Then he shared 2-4 places in Wijk aan Zee with his new rating. However, Caruana performed in Aeroflot with the same 2736 Elo, which allowed him to leave Mosow with 4.1 gained points. The current rating of 2766.5 points has been gathered from the mentioned tournaments.

The new star left behind Sergei Karjakin, Alexandr Morozevich and Vassily Ivanchuk, winning them one, two and three rating points respectively.
