The leading grandmaster of Belarus Sergei Zhigalko has won against the rating-favourite Boris Grachev in the penultimate round of Nakhchivan Open and levelled on points with Viorel Iordachescu (who drew against Eltaj Safarli, as we reported earlier).

S. ZHIGALKO (2649) - B. GRACHEV (2705)

28...Qd8? (leaving the bishop in a vulnerable position without a reason) 29.Bc4, and Black's position has turned from difficult to hopeless. After 29...Ne3 decides 30.Rxe3 dxe3 31.f5. On 29...N7b6 the simplest is 30.Bxd5 Nxd5 31.Qxc5.
Grachev chose 29...N5b6, but after 30.Bxe6 fxe6 Black's misfortune didn't stop with a loss of the exchange: after 31.Qg6! the moves that followed were, probably, not needed.

Sergei Tiviakov couldn't outplay Konstantine Shanava: the game ended as a draw.

Zhigalko and Iordachescu have 6 points before the last round. They will play against the others, since they've already played against each other in the yesterday's round 7.
