E.SUROV: This is Chess-News, we're at the "Chess yard" of the State Tretyakov Gallery and the hero of the evening, Katya Goltsman is with us.

S.GOLTSEVA: Goltseva. Ekaterina Goltseva.

E. SUROV: Oh, Goltseva. Pardon me, I didn't understand. Ekaterina Goltseva (that changes everything!) who didn't lose against Garry Kasparov. She is together with her mother. What is your name?

S.GOLTSEVA: Svetlana.

E.SUROV: And her brother...

E.SUROV: How old is Dmitry?

S. GOLTSEVA: Dmitry is 11, Ekaterina – 9. She became the Champion of Russia under 10 this year. In 2010 she was the Champion of Russia under 8 and the Vice-Champion of Europe under the same age group.

E. SUROV: So that is what forces were thrown against Kasparov!

S.GOLTSEVA: Yes, she is a member of the youth national team of Russia.

D.GOLTSEV: And I won Moscow Open.

S.GOLTSEVA: Dima shared 1-2 at Moscow Open last year.

E.SUROV: Katya, please tell us, did you ever think that you can manage not to lose against such a player as Kasparov?

Е.GOLTSEVA: I don't know. I thought I wouldn't play against him. And now I've gotten this chance and I made a decent draw.

Е.SUROV: Please, tell us about the game. What has happened in the game?

Е.GOLTSEVA: Well, he started to attack. Then, I actually don't understand - did he blunder an exchange? It's more likely that he sacrificed it for my dark-squared bishop. Then he managed to close the position and in the endgame I had an extra exchange but I couldn't break the position. So, he offered a draw and we agreed.

Е.SUROV: And did you see his face while playing against you?

Е.GOLTSEVA: Yes, I did.

Е.SUROV: And what were you thinking about at that moment?

Е.GOLTSEVA: I don't know.

Е.SUROV: Perhaps, about the position... Tell us about yourself. How long have you been playing chess?

Е.GOLTSEVA: I don't know. I started when I was 4.

Е.SUROV: You told me that your dad is your coach. So, who is your father? Is he a famous chess player?

S.GOLTSEVA: He holds the Candidate Master title; but last year he was second in the nomination "The best children's coach of Russia" Jakov Geller was first, and Evgeny Goltsev - second. Katya became the Champion of Russia and the Vice-Champion of Europe, so he was awarded this, let's say, title.

Е.SUROV: Isn't it offensive for you that Katya's earlier achievements weren't paid attention, while her draw against Kasparov in only one game, perhaps, will attract more attention to her than all achievements of the previous years?

S.GOLTSEVA: No, it's just a miracle that we played against Garry Kimovich. It was unexpected for us. We came here as the representatives of Volga Federal District, we were chosen to take part in this event. Many thanks to the Russian Chess Federation for inviting us. It was such a surprise to know that we would play against Kasparov.

Е.SUROV: Did you prepare for the game?

S.GOLTSEVA: We didn't know! Till last minutes we didn't know we'd play against Garry Kimovich. We just got to know that...

Е.SUROV: So, you didn't prepare the opening, Katya?

Е.GOLTSEVA: No, I didn't. I just played the opening that was prepared for me by my dad; the one I've played at the Russian Championship.

Е.SUROV: I think that your dad deserved the title he was given... I guess now your dad will surely be nominated for the title of the best coach. Well, Konstantin Zangalis of Soviet Sport interrupts us... You know, our interview is in live broadcast mode.

К.ZANGALIS: Oh, pardon me.

S.GOLTSEVA: Soviet Sport has written about Katya lately...

Е.SUROV: Good, I think we'll hear about you again. Thank you very much. This was Katya Goltseva with her chess family; and finally, what is your dad's name?

S.GOLTSEVA: The dad – Evgeny Gennadiyevich Goltsev.

Е.SUROV: That's for us to know the coach who prepared the opening that allowed to hold against Kasparov.

S.GOLTSEVA: Thank you very much.
