The website sport.news.am reports about the unusual draw ceremony of the Women's Grand Prix which took place in Jermuk, Armenia. Each of the participants chose a warrior, who crowned them. On the other side of the crowns there were written the ordinal numbers of the participants.

As a result the pairings of Round 1 became known:
Koneru (1) - Zhao Xue (12)
Khurtsidze (2) - Ju Wenjun (11)
Danielian (3) - Mkrtchian (10)
Hou Yifan (4) - Mongontuul (9)
Ruan Lufei (5) - Lahno (8)
Kovalevskaya (6) - Kosintseva N. (7)

Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, the President of FIDE, was quite complimentary about the host country of the Women's Grand Prix: "Every time the members of FIDE and I visit Armenia, we feel how important and loved is chess here. Except the strong players, the country demonstrates a strong public interest in chess... It's not surprising that Armenia has introduced chess as an obligatory subject at schools... The International Chess Olympiad starts in a month in Turkey. God loves a Trinity, so I'm sure that the Armenian players will get back with the Golden medals for the third time."
